Her research primarily deals with family migration, transnationalism, environmental migration, qualitative migration research methods, and the history of migration. Is currently a researcher for HELIX (High-End cLimate Impacts and eXtremes), an FP7 project funded by the European Union. Within the framework of HELIX, Dr. Zickgraf studies the relationship between climate change, mobility and immobility, and family life in a comparative case study of Senegal and Bangladesh, asking the question: How does the migration of some affect the adaptive capacity of those who stay?
